Apex Learning expands its extensive course catalog with Georgia-specific curriculum
SEATTLE, WA — February 9, 2009 — Apex Learning®, the leading provider of digital curriculum for secondary education, today announced new math courses designed specifically to meet revised Georgia high school curriculum standards. Apex Learning Georgia Math courses, delivered online to classrooms, offer an integrated approach, weaving together the use of algebra, geometry and statistics in the context of exploring real-life scenarios. Comprehensive, year-long courses use media – including animations, charts, graphs, images, and interactive manipulatives – in conjunction with a text-based presentation of information to engage students.
These state-specific additions to Apex Learning’s already-robust suite of digital curriculum further the abilities of educators to help students successfully meet high school graduation requirements regardless of learning styles and situations.
"Apex Learning prides itself on being responsive to the educational demands facing school districts and teachers," said Cheryl Vedoe, CEO of Apex Learning. "Our standards-based math curriculum will help Georgia educators better meet the needs of all of their students and help everyone succeed at a high level."
Georgia’s revised state math standards integrate algebra, geometry and other content strands traditionally taught as separate courses into one. Apex Learning’s Georgia Math courses meet the Georgia Performance Standards and are aligned to the Instructional Frameworks in Mathematics. The first course, Math I, will be available statewide in August.
Banks County Schools in northeast Georgia uses Apex Learning curriculum, including math courses, with high schools students who need to repeat classes in order to recover credits. Teachers have been impressed by how the interactive media components have engaged students and are eagerly anticipating Apex Learning’s Georgia Math I.
"Our teachers are really excited about the new math courses," said Stacey Morgan, 21st Century Program Director for Banks County Schools. "The realignment of the Georgia math curriculum means our teachers have to reinvent how they teach math. They are thrilled that Apex Learning has stepped forward to help them meet that need."
Each Apex Learning Georgia Math course is custom-built to meet the state’s expectations for math curriculum. Interactive tasks allow students to explore and discover math concepts through real-world situations. Courses assume readiness for grade-level academic challenges, but include additional support for students who can benefit from it, such as study sheets and an audio option for instructional text.
